Brief Overview

Melissa Forbes is a music educator, singing practitioner-researcher, and recovering jazz musician. Her research explores our experiences of singing and seeks to position singing as an everyday activity from which anyone can benefit. She is proud to have been involved in the formation of Toowoomba’s first singing group for people with Parkinson’s disease and their carers. Melissa is interested in the broader role of group singing within social prescribing and the role musicians can play in delivering group singing interventions that foster belonging and social connection.

Group singing and solo singing for social connection, health and wellbeing.

Collaboration of Interests

As above. Keen to be involved in any projects that seek to raise healthcare providers’ awareness of the benefits of music for social connection.
